Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992. She then began an education in marine science at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999 when she was hired on board the vessel F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner converted to an ice-fish tender was owned by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard has been engaged to Aritan and has joined their teams to take over their businesses. They believe in conservative, sustainable management of sustainable seafood resources. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007 by a mother of two young children: Bella aged 3, and Andre age 1. Its name is an affectionate recall of her extensive expertise in fish biology as well as her husband's extensive involvement to the industry of seafood, often leaving them separated for five months or longer as they work towards the environment and financial goals that reflect both their independence and commitment to their community wherever they live. Bossard, their son Andre and daughter Isabella will be returning back to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the salmon season. In the course of two months, Bossard and Isabella utilize hooks and lines to fish for their target salmon. Aritan will then sell their fish to local processors.
